New sukuk programme supports hyperscale data centres and industrial asset expansion

Expanding Into Digital Infrastructure
Sime Darby Property Bhd is accelerating its expansion into Malaysia’s digital infrastructure sector through a RM2.6 billion sukuk programme under its New Economy Venture (NEV) platform. The funding will support the development of build-to-suit-to-lease hyperscale data centres, as well as industrial and logistics assets.
Supporting Hyperscale Data Centre Growth
The programme will partially finance hyperscale data centre developments at Elmina Business Park, with Sime Darby Property responsible for designing, constructing and delivering the assets. The development is supported by a long-term lease arrangement with a global technology company, providing recurring income visibility.
Building a New Economy Asset Portfolio
Beyond data centres, part of the funding will support industrial and logistics developments, including a build-to-suit distribution warehouse in City of Elmina. The initiative aligns with Sime Darby Property’s strategy to expand its recurring income portfolio through institutional-grade assets.
Why It Matters
The move highlights the growing importance of digital infrastructure within Malaysia’s property sector. As demand for data centres continues to rise, developers with strategic landbanks and industrial capabilities are positioning themselves to capture opportunities beyond traditional residential development.
